Huneycutt-English Home
First time on Tour

In the late 1800’s there were two homes on this property. They were either destroyed by fire or removed by 1905. The lot remained vacant until 1926 when this beautiful Craftsman Bungalow was built for B.B. Blanton, a local barber. The house changed owners twice before it was sold to Dr. Simeon and Viola Huneycutt in 1944. They raised six children in this three bedroom home.
Dr. Huneycutt passed away in 1972. Viola continued to live in the home until the year 2000. Her children, for her 90th birthday, painted the interior of her house light pink, including kitchen cabinets. Dusty rose carpet was added to the living room as well as pink and white floral linoleum to the kitchen and bathroom floors, her favorite color!

Roger and Debbie English lived in Arlington and had opened a restaurant in Glen Rose. They were wanting to move closer to the restaurant and found this house for sale in Cleburne. Through the years they have restored the home, recently adding a new kitchen.

The English’s are the owners of Toodle loo and tiny too, initially creating vintage/victorian children’s clothing and small scale furniture, it has now evolved into repurposing and restoring furniture, often discarded, giving them new life. As their business grew, they purchased the house next door, 917 N. Anglin, in 2001 to use as their work space.

Beautifully designed and decorated for Christmas, you will enjoy the flow of the house and soft colors. The home is a mix of original and painted antique furniture. Collections of old books, German beer steins, antique hardware are among the treasures of the past they fully appreciate.
Special to the home is a depression era self portrait of Debbie’s aunt, 20th century artist Louise Holden Mims. The portrait was in a traveling art exhibit showing at the Golden Jubilee Exhibition State Fair of Texas in 1938.

Roger and Debbie have been members of Save Old Cleburne for over 20 years. They are dedicated to the preservation of Cleburne’s older homes, neighborhoods and downtown. This is the first time their home has been on tour. They are also the owners of “The Baby House” which is also on this year’s tour.

205 Sunset Drive

Weakley-Palmer House
First Time on Tour

Marvin and Lydia Weakley were the first owners of this Craftsman-Cottage home. It was one of eleven houses built in the development of Sunset Drive in 1925. Marvin was a Councilman for Cleburne’s Third Ward District.

Mark and Angela Palmer sold their home on Wilson Street and only had a few weeks to find a house. They liked that this house still had its Craftsman fireplace with its built in seating/bookshelves feature intact, yet was in need of restoration. The entire exterior was painted tan, the front porch screened in, making the house unnoticeable. The interior walls were paneled with acoustic tile ceilings. Undeterred, they bought the house in 2021.

The Palmers spent a year bringing the house to its original beauty. The screens were removed from the porch making an inviting entrance. They replaced all the electrical, plumbing and added an additional bathroom. Carpets were removed to expose original wood flooring. The kitchen and utility were reconfigured to have a better flow. The exterior was painted Moody Blue with Spice shutters. Mark built the picket fence and added a victorian light post.

Carlee Palmer will be intermittently playing the baby grand piano during the tour. Trees in every room, the house celebrates Christmas. Antique furnishings mixed with mounted waterfowl and deer make this Arts and Crafts style home feel like a peaceful retreat. It’s country kitchen has a brick backsplash and butcher block countertops.
The backyard has a building that was originally a chicken coop and is now a green house.

A reindeer will be on site from 5:00-7:00 for tour visitors.

Mark and Angela have been members of Save Old Cleburne since moving to Cleburne from Clifton in 2016. They bought an Eastlake Victorian home on 506 West Wilson and had it on the Candlewalk Tour In 2017.
The Palmers purchased the house next door on 510 West Wilson, a large French Second Empire home naming it ‘Shaw Manor’. It was also on the 2017 Candlewalk Tour during its extensive restoration as a ‘Work in Progress’.
Shaw Manor was on the Candlewalk Tour In 2019 as a finished restoration.
Mark and Angela also purchased and restored the house on 512 West Wilson. The Sunset house is the Palmers third extensive restoration, showing their dedication to the preservation of Cleburne’s beautiful older homes and historical neighborhoods.

United Presbyterian Church, 1510 West Westhill Drive

The United Presbyterian Church came into being in 1972 when the congregations of the Anglin Street Presbyterian Church merged with the First Presbyterian Church. circa 1868 and 1875. The building houses the original 476 pipe organ from the First Presbyterian Church and stained glass windows from the original Main Street and Anglin Street buildings. Self guided tour.

Fellowship Hall is hosting a mission fair and refreshments.

Antique Findery, 201 E. Henderson

Downtown Cleburne

Antique Findery is the ‘ A Little Shop with a Big Heart and Fantastic Finds’ offering a mix of antiques, vintage and collectibles. Stacy and Lora McNabb love Cleburne’s historic buildings and small town feel. Lora loves that the shop owners downtown work together and help each other thrive.

Open Tues-Sat 10:30-5:30 Sunday 12-5:00.

Open until 7:00 during Candlewalk.

Bus Depot and Marketplace, 215 E. Henderson

Downtown Cleburne

The Bus Depot is filled with holiday and handcrafted decorations! It offers a variety of vintage furniture, candles, handcrafted gifts, boutique clothing and Metal yard art. The 1890’s building was the site of Central Texas Bus Lines from 1933-1960.

Layland Museum. 201 North Caddo

Tour the Museum, built in 1905 as the Cleburne Carnegie Library. It served as a library for more than 70 years. On exhibit now is “The Mustang Foundation: Art from the Cowpasture Bank” features 47 works of art that was commissioned and collected by Lowell “Stretch” Smith Jr., many by artist George Hallmark and cartoonist Lex Graham.

Dotey-Kirkham House

Bearing a Texas Historical Marker, the Dotey-Kirkham House was built in 1865. The Southern Colonial Cottage has two front rooms with fireplaces on either side of a central hallway. Early in the 1900’s, two wings were added behind each front room. Owned by the Johnson County Historical Commission.

It is open Saturday December 2nd for Tour.
